Sands And Oases Of Southern Tunisia

Day 1: Djerba Airport - Djerba

Arrival to Djerba airport, meet up with  your guide and departure to your hotel

Check in at hotel Djerba resorts 4****. Buffet dinner and overnight 

Day 2: Djerba – Tataouine – Ksar Ouled Soltane – Trekkinf in Chenini & Douiret

After breakfast, depart for Tataouine and visit of Ksar Ouled Soltane (the filming site of Star Wars), whose former granary rooms are among the most interesting in the region. Visit Chenini, a Berber village built on the mountainside, with its two mosques, one of which is a troglodyte. Lunch on typical restaurant. In the afternoon, explore on foot ancient Berber cities, abandoned and clinging to the heights like impregnable forts. Walk with superb views between Chenini and Douiret. Check-in in a troglodyte guesthouse in Gite of Douiret. Cooking show with Yamina a local woman who prepares a traditional dishes. Dinner and overnight

Day 3: Douiret - Hiking in Guermessa & Zammour 

Typical breakfast, short transfer to your starting point. This morning's hike follows old mule trails to the fortified village of Guermessa, which overlooks the plain from its rocky outcrop. After lunch at the site and a visit, a short transfer to Ben Kdach, then a discovery of Ksar Halouf. Another beautiful walk awaits: a small trail leads to Zamour, less well-known than Matmata, but through wilder terrain. 

Check-in at the troglodyte house of Dar Ennaim. Typical dinner and overnight

Day 4: Zammour – Camel Caravane - Douz

After breakfast, we leave the Dahar region for Douz, the gateway to the Sahara. Then, head into the desert and meet our team of camel drivers on the banks of the Grand Erg. The large caravan departs, with a morning walk and a first break in the dunes for a meal prepared by our cook. We continue in the afternoon to our bivouac site. Typical dinner and evening under the stars.

Day 5: Douz – Desert Experience

After breakfast, a true change of scenery, the beginning of a great journey. Here, the Sahara presents itself in curves and undulations. The magic of the sand dunes turning red in the evening, the pancakes baked in the sand, the spring, tea shared around the 

fire... A village buried in sand... then arrival at the second camp near a marabout, still in the middle of the dunes. Typical dinner and overnight

Day 6: Douz – trekking in Gidma Oases – Chebika – Tamerza - Tozeur

After breakfast, departure in the morning for a walk towards the Ghidma oasis to escape the great dunes. Transfer to Tamerza and lunch in the palm grove in a beautiful setting. Drive to Chebika and Midès via the Chott El-Djerid, a vast depression filled with water or salt, depending on the season. We will reach the Midès oasis on foot, crossing surprising canyons. It's time to leave the beautiful village of Midès, suspended above deep gorges, for Tozeur. Arrive in Tozeur and check into the hotel Ras El Ain 4****. Enjoy an evening in a typical restaurant and explore this lively town and its medina (the Tozeur Museum is also open in the evening).

Day 7: Tozeur – Sidi Bouhlel – Chott Jerid – Toujane - Djerba

In the morning, a final stroll through the old quarter of Tozeur, with its ochre brick houses adorned with geometric patterns. Transfer to Sidi Bouhlel, a deep, wild gorge dominated by a marabout. Walk to a surprising panoramic viewpoint overlooking the region's oases and the Chott El-Djerid. It's time to leave these arid, steep mountains, at the "bottom of the world," with their explosions of greenery nestled in the hollow of a rock. On the way, visit a cave house near Toujane. Lunch in a local restaurant, then return to the island of Djerba by ferry in the afternoon. Check-in at hotel Djerba Resorts 4****. Buffet dinner and overnight

Day 8: Djerba – Djerba Airport

After breakfast, transfer to the airport and return flight.
